WaterWipes show necessity can be the father of invention

The best solutions in the world often come from a personal problem.

Drogheda father Edward McCloskey created WaterWipes more than 11 years ago after his newborn daughter suffered with bad nappy rash, and he couldn’t find a baby wipe that didn’t contain chemicals or other ingredients that were too harsh for her sensitive skin.

Wondering if there was an opportunity to manufacture a water-based wipe with minimal ingredients, he was told it could not be done but he persevered for 6 years with a pool of scientists, biologists and dermatologists to create WaterWipes: a product containing just water and a drop of fruit extract.

Now millions of packets of wipes are manufactured every week, and 250 people work together to sell WaterWipes in more than 50 countries including all supermarkets and major retail chains in Australia and New Zealand.

Recent review of scientific literature shows WaterWipes are proven to be purer than cotton wool and water as although boiled and cooled water used with cotton wool are perceived to be pure, particulates, impurities and other minerals can be detected.

Andrea Hawes, Australasian Marketing Manager for WaterWipes at Marzena explains, “This result is really no surprise to us! Our WaterWipes are manufactured under clean room conditions using a unique 7-stage water purifying technology that undergo stringent quality checks to ensure the product is of the highest standard and free from contamination before, during and after production. The purity and development of our product in clean room environments is always of utmost importance to us, and now during the pandemic is what more parents and healthcare professionals are asking for.”

Made with only two ingredients, 99.9% water and a drop of fruit extract, WaterWipes is suitable for sensitive, newborn and premature baby’s skin and are the only baby wipes to be approved by Skin Health Alliance, Allergy UK and have been awarded the National Eczema Association of America’s seal of acceptance.
