This month, we were delighted to welcome former President of the European Parliament Pat Cox to a roundtable breakfast in Melbourne. Pat has unrivalled experience in European affairs, having served three terms as a member of the European Parliament and being elected leader of the liberal ELDR grouping of the European Parliament. In 2002, Pat was elected President of the European Parliament and served in this role until 2004. During a crucial era for Europe, Pat was responsible for overseeing the enlargement of Europe with the addition of ten new member states, eight of whom were part of the former eastern block of communist states.
Also present at the breakfast was Ireland’s Ambassador to Australia Breandán Ó Caollaí and a number of leading Irish businesses including Taxback, TransferMate and Teamwork who continue to expand their presence in Melbourne backed by the continued support of Enterprise Ireland and Invest Victoria.
From all of us at Enterprise Ireland, we would like to thank Pat for his time and hugely valuable insights into the dynamic environment of global politics.
