60 Seconds with Ray Fleming from Enterprise Ireland

This month, Ray Fleming has joined the Enterprise Ireland Team as Senior Market Advisor, focusing on IoT and Telecommunications. Ray has a strong I.T. recruitment background and brings a wealth of knowledge to our team. Originally from Maynooth, Ray moved over here in 2001 and is now permanently based in Sydney with his wife and three boys.  Ray will be focusing on providing support to his clients and expanding their growth within Australia and New Zealand.

Q.What was your first job when you came to Australia?

A. Ski lift operator, Thredbo ski fields…

Q. What made you want to join the Enterprise Ireland team?

A. Ireland is undoubtedly punching above its weight in terms of innovation and entrepreneurism. I wanted to be part of that and to help spread the word here in Australia

Q. Why do you think Australia is attractive for Irish companies to come do business?

A. Culturally, Australia has real parallels to Ireland – we share strong historical, legal and language ties, not to mention the strength of the diaspora here; Economically, Australia is enjoying a 30 year non-recession period and is the 14th largest economy in the world; Geographically Australia can be the gateway to the broader APAC region, the world’s fastest growing economic zone.

Q. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

A. Slow down and take notice. Life passes by so quickly, it would be a shame to miss it.

Q. Finally, name three people you would like to invite to your dream dinner party and why?

A. Hmm tough one. Stephen Fry would be there – a funny man with huge amount of wisdom; I’m a history buff so Dan Carlin would be my 2nd choice. The if I could bring someone back to life it would be Oliver Reed – just to see what would happen.
